Overview: World Stop Stuttering Academy ("WSSA") and its certified stuttering therapists offer speech therapy to stutterers. Many have found these methods helpful but neither the methods nor the therapy should be taken as medical advice. As the number of certified speech therapists is limited, WSSA cannot and expressly does not guarantee to provide therapy to all or any at any given time.
WSSA’s platform was created to enable people who stopped stuttering (PWSS) to help people who stutter (PWS). WSSA is modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous, where people who control their alcoholism help alcoholics stop drinking. The core idea is that those who have suffered and beaten the problem understand it and are better able to explain the ways to beat it.
Sessions Videotaped: PWS frequently learn from watching stuttering therapy sessions of others, and many like to re-watch their own sessions. As such, WSSA videotapes therapy sessions for the purpose of providing PWS the opportunity to benefit from the therapy sessions of others. The goal is to help as many PWS as possible, while costing PWS as little money as possible. Accordingly, your therapy sessions will be videotaped. You may have your face removed from the video by request (although we hope that you will not, as it helps others to see and hear you speak) and/or use a pseudonym for your first name. Last names and contact information are never disclosed. You hereby agree to allow WSSA to videotape your therapy sessions. All videos will remain the sole property of WSSA and will be shown (in whole or in part) wherever and whenever WSSA believes that they will most benefit PWS. WSSA represents that, to the best of its knowledge and belief, all published stopped stuttering stories on WSSA’s website and StopStutter mobile app are accurately reported and verified .
WSSA offers stuttering speech therapy to improve speech only. Its stuttering therapy is not a substitute for, nor does it replace, professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and you should consult with your physician or other qualified health-care professional for questions about health-related issues. The purchase of, and participation in, stuttering therapy is solely at your own risk. WSSA cannot and does not guarantee that its stuttering therapy will stop stuttering or enable fluent speech. There are no refunds for therapy purchased.
Time Limit to Use Therapy – because WSSA understands that stuttering therapy is most effective when used consistently, it recommends weekly sessions for PWS. To encourage consistent therapy sessions, purchased therapy sessions expire as follows: # sessions purchased X 2 = weeks until expiration. For example, 5 sessions purchased on May 1st would expire on July 10th, or 10 weeks after purchase. Thus, while we encourage weekly sessions, sessions can be used every other week prior to expiration. We cannot and do not guarantee that more than one session per week will be available through its therapists. A PWSS, or person who stopped stuttering, may purchase sessions with no time limit to use.
Waiver and Release of Liability regarding Therapy: I the Student or Client hereby, for myself and my heirs, executors, administrators, assigns or other representatives, waive any and all claims or causes of action of any kind whatsoever arising from any stuttering therapy provided to me by WSSA, and I do hereby release and forever discharge WSSA, its officers, directors, therapists, and authorized representatives, their successors and assigns for any physical, psychological or other injury, including, for example, economic or emotional loss that I believe that I may suffer or did suffer as a result of any therapy provided to me by WSSA or its therapists. I am voluntarily participating in the therapy, and I am aware of potential risks of same. I acknowledge that the therapy activity might involve a test of my physical and/or mental limits. I assume all related risks, known and unknown, of my participation in WSSA’s therapy. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless WSSA, its officers, directors, therapists and agents, against all claims, suits or actions of any kind whatsoever which might be brought by me or anyone on my behalf, including attorneys’ fees and related costs. I also acknowledge that I have carefully read this Waiver and Release and fully understand that it is a release of all liability, including for negligence, if State or country law so allows.
